I wanted to commend you for the creation of the “Here for America” initiative highlighting the significant impact international automakers have on the U.S. economy and our communities.
Tennessee is the proud home to more than 900 automotive suppliers, three OEMs, two engine plants and the largest lithium-ion battery plant in the U.S. — all of which employ over 130,000 Tennesseans, more than any other state in the Southeast.
Tennessee strongly supports the automotive industry, and since my tenure, Tennessee has experienced significant growth–with commitments from the automotive-related companies to create over 43,000 new jobs. We are fortunate to partner with automotive leaders such as Nissan North America, whose Smyrna plant is the most productive auto plant in North America, and Volkswagen, which selected Chattanooga as the home of its only U.S. manufacturing operation.
Automotive companies have invested over $37 billion across our state, and as they continue to invest in Tennessee, we will continue to partner with leaders in this remarkable global industry that drives economic momentum throughout the Southeast, the United States and the world.
Again, thank you for your efforts in the “Here for America” initiative. I look forward to working with you and the Association of Global Automakers for the advancement and promotion of international automakers in America.
