On September 25, 2015, Volvo Cars broke ground on its first US plant in Ridgeville, Berkeley County, South Carolina. The plant is the production home of the all new S60 mid-size sedan, and it will produce the next generation XC90 sport utility vehicle around 2022. With the two car lines, the plant has the capacity to produce up to 150,000 cars annually.
The plant, which employs nearly 1,500 people, sits on 1,600 acres. The 2.3 million sq. ft. facility includes a body shop, paint shop, final assembly, a vehicle processing center and an office building.
